Understanding by Design (Backward Design)
After watching Grant Wiggins workshop; Understanding by design (Backward Design) it became quite evident to me that Understanding By Design(UBD) is a goal focused planning framework that helps students become critical and creative thinkers. It's about embedding short term plans into long term goals so as to get students to function independently throughout their life. Moreover, it delves into knowing where you want to end up(destination) and strategically using instruction and assessment to get them there. Backward design emphasizes the use of resources to get content but the content does not create or determines the design.

Hi Lonzil, I like your explanation of the Backward Design. I consider it Beginning with the end in mind. Instructional design framework allow teachers to know where they want the lesson to go. In addition it allows the teacher to conduct the necessary research and gather the instructional materials or resources required to reach that goal.
